How FacePair Measures Family Resemblance

FacePair uses on-device neural networks to extract facial geometry, calculate bilateral symmetry, and compare inherited phenotype traits without sending a single photo to a server.

Execution
100% In-Browser, Zero Cloud Upload or Storage
Landmark Mesh
68 Coordinate Nodes across Eyes, Nose, Jawline, and Lip Border
Comparison Metrics
Inter-Pupillary Distance, Nasal Bridge Ratio, Mandibular Curvature
Classification
Recreational Phenotype Analysis, Non-Medical and Non-Forensic

Zero Cloud Storage

Photos stay in your browser memory and are discarded when you close the tab. Nothing is transmitted to external servers.

Trait-Level Breakdown

How the FacePair AI Facial Resemblance Scan Works

FacePair uses client-side computer vision models to map 68 facial coordinate landmarks, measure geometric ratios, and calculate hereditary phenotype similarities across your family tree in four automated steps.

  1. User uploading reference portrait photographs of self, mother, and father into FacePair
Step 1: Uploading primary reference photographs for maternal and paternal comparison.

Upload Photos of Yourself and Your Parents

Add front-facing portraits of yourself, your mother, and your father. Uploading multiple photos with natural lighting and varied angles improves landmark extraction precision.

    Capacity
Up to 4 photos per person
    Photo Guideline
    Neutral expression, well-lit
  2. Family tree layout showing cards for grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins
Step 2: Expanding the multi-generational family tree with extended relatives.

Add Extended Relatives to Your Family Tree

Expand your comparison by adding siblings, maternal or paternal grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. FacePair automatically maps each individual to the correct genealogical branch.

    Tree Limit
    Up to 12 relatives
    Lineage Types
    Paternal, Maternal, Siblings
  3. Facial landmark scanning mesh overlay calculating coordinate points on portrait
Step 3: Neural network scanning facial coordinates locally in-browser.

Run the Neural Biometric Face Scan

Activate the scanner to extract feature vectors across ocular spacing, nasal bridge angles, jawline contours, and mouth proportions. All computations run in-browser in seconds.

FacePair Family Resemblance Features

FacePair brings family photos from different years, cameras, and generations into one place, making it straightforward to explore how facial resemblance carries across your family tree.

Family tree diagram showing maternal and paternal branches with relative cards organized by relationship
Feature: Organizing relatives by maternal and paternal family branch.

Organize Every Relative by Family Branch

FacePair’s family tree builder assigns each relative to the correct maternal or paternal branch automatically. Parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins stay grouped by their actual relationship, keeping even large multi-generation scans easy to navigate.

All-vs-all resemblance similarity board showing cross-family pairings including siblings, cousins, and aunts
Feature: All-versus-all cross-family resemblance similarity board.

Explore Resemblance Beyond Parent-Child Matches

FacePair plots every uploaded photo onto an all-vs-all similarity board, calculating resemblance percentages across every possible pairing at once. Explore sibling-to-sibling, cousin-to-cousin, and aunt-to-niece connections in a single view.

Facial feature comparison showing eyes, nose, and jaw trait scores across multiple relatives
Feature: Tracing a single facial feature like eyes or jawline across all scanned relatives.

Trace Individual Facial Features Across Relatives

Select one feature β€” eyes, cheeks, lips, nose, or jawline β€” and test it against every person in your scan. FacePair scores the same trait across multiple pairings, revealing recurring patterns that would otherwise be easy to overlook.

Ranked leaderboard showing resemblance scores out of 100 for each family member with Mom and Dad split percentage
Feature: Scored and ranked leaderboard of family resemblance matches out of 100.

Scored and Ranked Results for Every Family Match

FacePair delivers a Mom/Dad percentage split and a ranked leaderboard of your closest look-alikes. Each relative receives a score out of 100, with clear labels such as Slight resemblance or Looks very alike for instant readability.

Photo quality rating panel showing Excellent, Good, Fair, and Poor grades with specific improvement tips
Feature: Per-photo quality rating system with actionable improvement feedback.

Per-Photo Quality Ratings and Actionable Feedback

Every photo receives a quality rating β€” Excellent, Good, Fair, or Poor β€” with specific flags for blur, poor lighting, extreme angles, or obstructions. Weak photos include direct guidance such as “Use a front-facing photo” so you know exactly how to improve before scanning.

Facial geometry overlay showing structural proportions compared between a younger and older family member
Feature: Comparing facial structure across age differences and varied expressions.

Match Faces Across Different Ages and Expressions

FacePair measures underlying facial geometry and structural proportions, not surface appearance, so smiles, wrinkles, and age gaps do not prevent accurate comparisons. Each profile also generates visual estimates for age range, gender presentation, and emotion.

Frequently Asked Questions About FacePair

Answers to the most common questions about how FacePair works, what it measures, and what affects your results.

Is FacePair an actual DNA test?

No. FacePair is an AI-powered facial resemblance tool, not a genetic DNA test. It analyzes visible facial geometry β€” including feature spacing, proportions, and structural contours β€” to estimate how visually similar family members appear to one another. It does not access or test biological or chromosomal data.

Do black-and-white photos produce accurate results?

Yes. FacePair’s analysis engine measures geometric distances and structural proportions rather than color data. Vintage black-and-white prints, sepia photographs, and older scanned images are as scannable as modern digital portraits, provided the face is clearly visible and reasonably sharp.

Why doesn’t my highest score always feel like my closest match?

FacePair scores facial geometry β€” measurements such as eye spacing, nasal bridge angles, and jaw contour ratios β€” rather than overall appearance. A relative may feel visually similar to you due to shared colouring, hairstyle, or expression, while the underlying bone structure geometry scores lower. Conversely, a high-scoring relative may share precise structural proportions that are less obvious to the eye. Adding multiple photos per person reduces the effect of lighting, pose, and age differences on the result.
